Why Central Alentejo
Central Alentejo is a Portuguese sub-region located in the southeast of the country, belonging to the Alentejo region. It has a total area of 7,393 km2, 152,511 inhabitants in 2021 and a population density of 22 inhabitants per km2. It is made up of 14 municipalities and 69 parishes, with the city of Évora being the administrative city and the main urban nucleus of the sub-region.
With 43,652 inhabitants in its urban area and 53,591 inhabitants throughout the municipality, it is the largest city and the largest municipality in Central Alentejo, being limited to the northwest with Lezíria do Tejo, to the north with Alto Alentejo, to the east with the Spanish region of Estremadura, to the south with Baixo Alentejo, to the southwest with Alentejo Litoral and to the west with the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.
