Europcar success story in Portugal
As a major player in the mobility sector, the France-based Europcar Mobility Group has been Europe's leading car rental provider for almost 70 years.
In 2014, the group chose Portugal among its 18 subsidiary locations in Europe to create a shared services centre. Now with a team of 350 professionals, the centre has become one of Europcar's biggest sites and acts as a key enabler of the group's transformation.
Industry: Shared Services
Where: Oeiras (Lisbon Metropolitan Area)
Country of origin: France
With an average fleet of 200,000 vehicles and around 9,000 employees worldwide, the Europcar Mobility Group serves 5 million customers in more than 140 countries. Since the group established its shared services centre in Lisbon, it has centralised back-office activities for its European subsidiaries and worked towards process automation and optimisation.
According to Elisabeth Drouffe, former SSC Director, Portugal was the right choice for this new venture thanks to its “fantastic human capital”, as well as its “labour market conditions, innovation potential and airline connections to keep us connected to the rest of our teams”.

Currently, the centre is also leveraging automation and artificial intelligence to drive a global transformation programme in the area of Finance.
“The new generations in Portugal are very committed to innovation and creation”, says Elisabeth Drouffe, adding that the Lisbon SSC has now hit a stage of maturity where it can provide continuous improvement and value proposition to the company.
